2008 Wedding Trends

     Wedding styles for 2008 are looking to the past for an old sophisticated style with a modern edge. This was evident on every runway this season from dramatic necklines to softly layered sweep trains: today's bride is fashion forward and classically styled.

    Ruffles, pleating, and airy sweet netting; the dresses of this year's bride to be are full of detail as well as the lady-like quality of a bygone era. Charming fabrics that play with pattern and texture, paired with a sexy silhouette create a new standard of style and keep vintage looks from becoming stiff.

    The delicate lace found on your grandmother's pinafore has made its way into the bridal shops. From layers upon layers of roses with an old fashioned flare, to Swiss dots from tip to toe it's all about the light, feminine touches. Edging, appliqués, and inlays of lace are not to be missed.

    The empire waistline has made a strong showing and given brides a reason to pick up the champagne and celebrate! Finally an option for the woman who doesn't want a traffic stopping curve clinging dress, but still wants a romantic and sensual look. Rouching is still a major player. Seasoned designers, however, are offering more forgiving fabrics and flowing shapes to flatter all shapes and sizes.

    Deciding what to top off that perfect gown with? A single layer veil with little or no decorative trim may be just the perfect accent to a heavily detailed dress. With this season's dramatic draping and tonal details, simple accessories are best. Hairpins and combs with vintage beading are great substitutes for veils or as a fabulous post ceremony change to create two stunningly different looks.
